The Benefits Of Laughter For Natural Stress Relief

There is enough evidence to convince anyone that stress has a negative effect on your health.  But would you believe that laughter is a good natural stress relief solution?

Apparently, laughter has many positive health benefits, which can counteract the negative effects of the stress response.   I don’t know about you, but whenever I am having a bad day, chatting and laughing with a trusted friend always makes me feel better.  So there has got to be some validity to the old saying “Laughter is the best medicine”.


How does it actually work?

From what I have read, it seems that laughter increases the functioning of the immune system.  Anything that boosts the immune system helps the body to fight off illness and disease.   Stress on the other hand, weakens the immune system, thereby making you more vulnerable to stress.   Several studies have shown that laughter increases the production of endorphins. These chemicals are known as the “feel good” chemicals, because they increase feelings of happiness and well-being when released into the blood.
