Mental fatigue can definitely take its toll on your well-being.  And I should know, since I often feel both mentally and physically drained and in urgent need of effective mental stress relief techniques.

I recently realized that mental fatigue can actually be worse than physical fatigue because my inability to think clearly or express my feelings and frustrations. Worse still, mental stress is known to cause physical fatigue and illness, too!

If you are like me, your mental fatigue or exhaustion may be a result of your work, family life, conflict, or even a lack of quality sleep.

If you have to make an important decision, mental stress can take its toll on you and can even lead to mild or severe depression. I’ve been struggling with some important decisions which I have to make and the mental stress of it all can be debilitating.

Fortunately I found, through trial and error, that implementing the mental stress relief techniques below, has truly been a life changer for me!

How I Relax my Mind For Mental Stress Relief

Relaxation is absolutely necessary for mental stress relief and vitally important to rejuvenate your body and mind. You’re probably thinking, “How am I going to do that?”   I asked myself the same question and soon found that it’s quite easy. Here are some tips that I use to reduce mental exhaustion.

•    I take time out for myself. This is a BIGGIE!!   I withdraw regularly to spend time in a quiet room where I can reflect and get in touch with my spiritual side. Everyone has a different way of self-reflection. I read my bible, pray and meditate, but you may prefer to  write in a journal or diary, while others simply allow their thoughts to gently release into the darkness and quietness of the room.

•    I get plenty of sleep. Mental fatigue can exist no matter how much sleep you get, but sleep does help refresh your body and mind. Getting adequate sleep often eliminates a lot of my day-to-day stress. After all, that’s the ONLY time my body gets the chance to repair itself and recharge.  Sleep time is PRECIOUS.  Don’t short change yourself.

•    I free my mind from the problems that swirl around me

I make a point to take my mind off of those things that are causing me stress by gardening or spending time with friends and family.  That may do the trick for you too, or perhaps you need to go out for a nice dinner or weekend getaway to free your mind.

•    I walk as exercise regularly. Exercise causes your brain to release endorphins, which are known to make you feel happy. It’s like the body’s natural “high.” Even when all I can do it 15-minute walk, I take it.  Walking for exercise and mental stress relief works really well for me. It may work for you too! That can be great alone time for you.

•    I take a day in which I do something fun!  I sometimes break my stressful routine and take yourself out to a movie.  If you enjoy going to the  movies like I, then treat yourself by going out to a movie.  Or perhaps you would prefer to go to a museum or art gallery, or something else you’ve always wanted to do but never made time for. The benefit? You’ll be able to enjoy the peace and quiet of being alone.
