A Walk a Day, Keeps the Doctor Away

“All truly great thoughts are conceived by walking.”

Friedrich Nietzsche

In my last few Wellness Wednesday posts we detailed many of the therapeutic effects of nature gained through camping and gardening.

We saw how these activities also provided the ability to not just exercise the mind and soul, but also to exercise the physical body.  Each of these activities may include the use of some type of tools, be it a rake for the leaves in the garden, or in the case of camping, a few days off is needed; some planning and some camping gear.

But there is something even simpler that you can do. It requires no cost, no equipment and still allows you to reap the healing benefits for the mind and physical body.

Walking for Stress Relief , in my series of books geared towards nurturing better physical and mental health through approaching stress differently, examines the health benefits of walking. It is a way to enjoy nature, delve inside your mind and experience clarity that sometimes escapes us in a fast paced world.

Some people walk with a partner, others enjoy the solitude of walking alone, it’s one way to get their ‘me time’

Find out the effects of walking at different types of the day. Discover what types of physical environment for walking suits you so you can get the most benefit from your trek.

My book teaches you the secrets to stop making walking a chore and make it an enjoyable activity.

While you are enjoying this activity, you are freeing your mind, achieving great physical benefits and experiencing the abundance of gifts that nature has to offer you, through touch, sight and smell.

Stress melts away like snowflakes dropping on your face. You find vision, purpose and peace.

Many studies demonstrate the effects of walking and exercise on the brain and the ‘feel good’ feeling that it creates. Some studies even swear its effect is as good, if not better than taking medications for depression.

My book will also show you how it doesn’t matter what the weather, you can plan and have your scheduled walk. But just in case you can’t get out on a particular day, you can open up your window with a favorite view and jump on this desk treadmill. You can keep working from home and still get your walk on.

Don’t think that I forgot the mommies that have to have the little one accompany you on your walk or on a jog, for the more active moms. Click here to find out about a great stroller for your little walking partner.

Enjoy the peace, physical benefits and the stress relief that walking can bring to you.

Choose when, choose how and how much, but make sure you choose to do it.

Nutrition, Exercise and Stress Relief in your Backyard

3 blog

Sometimes the best things for stress relief can be found right at home.

So last time for Wellness Wednesday , we took a stroll in nature on a camping trip and looked at the therapeutic effects of camping out in Nature. While camping can be a planned weekend or vacation event that really does us well to recharge our spirits to face a world filled with stressors, there are days when a dose of nature cannot wait for a weekend trip at a campsite.

This is where the hobby of gardening comes into play. Some people have gardens of flowers, vegetables or fruits trees. Others have more elaborate gardens, containing it all; complete with lush foliage and fish ponds, bird baths and garden benches. Your back yard garden can be your place of reconnecting with nature, of finding solitude or sharing time with loved ones. Hey, you might even be able to pitch a tent and camp in your backyard! Click here to see how that’s done.

Gardening, as explained in my book Gardening for Stress Relief, reveals the benefits of exercise, stress relief through the sights, sounds and smells of nature. This book references recommendations of doctors and physical therapists on the benefits of gardening. It talks about its physical benefits on the body, to the feeling of personal satisfaction and creativity when your garden produces beautiful flowers, vegetables or fruits that can be of good nutrition for yourself or even be shared with others.

Discover how easy it is to take up gardening as a hobby. Learn the ins and outs of just what you need to create a backyard garden that brings you happiness and stress relief at the end of the day.

My book covers the different types of gardens, horticultural programs, even how to treat the soil before planting. It also focuses on the healing effects of gardening for children, the elderly, the physically or mentally challenged, and the highly stressed woman who needs that relief.

Whether your thing is planting your own fruits and vegetables, herbs or flowers, watching fish jump in the garden pond as birds bathe in the bird bath, this book covers it all.

Click here  for  some quick links to help you find guidelines on having a better garden experience.

You will walk away educated, with a new hobby and a great way to get exercise, have fun, be creative and experience nature while creating something beautiful that can be shared.

If you want to hack stress down to its root, a camping trip may be just the tool you need to do it.

One of the best ways to control stress is by taking regular quality, stress-free  vacations with your family, but with today’s sky-rocketing travel expenses , who can afford that?

I have the perfect answer: go camping! It is a great stress reliever, being out there with Mother Nature.  Read on to discover great tips, resources and guidelines on camping for beginners.

First of all, camping allows you to disconnect from the world of hustle and bustle and put aside the interruptions from the electronic world of phones, computers and emails.

It is a true saying that the best things in life are free. Mother Nature offers us so many of these beautiful things for free. You can find comfort and peace with the gentle blowing breezes, the flowing river or the smell of the green forest trees. There is great joy in to be found in catching a fish from the lake to cook for dinner on an open fire. All of these experiences can be had on a camping trip.

This is why I want to introduce you to another of my books Camping for Stress Relief.

It shows you how easy and affordable going on a camping trip can be. It reveals the benefits of being one with nature, and how turning off the distractions of the industrial and technologically advanced world will relieve your stress levels and positively affect how you deal with the ‘real’ world, once you get back to it.

Whether you are religious or not, something or someone gave us Mother Nature and it is ours to choose to help find balance between the Mind, Body and Soul.  The sights and fragrance of nature immediately puts us in a serene place.

There is also that additional relief in not having to worry that your camping vacation will cost you money that you really cannot afford, for those of us on a limited budget. No stress of how to pay for this trip when you return to your already hectic world.

You won’t need a vacation to recover from this vacation. My book highlights that you choose how simple or elaborate your camping vacation can be. You can be one with nature, completely on your own devices, or have a combination of both worlds of the outdoors, yet still have a handful of creature comforts like showers, and flushing toilets at your disposal.

You determine your budget, but the results will be the same; a time of family connections, working through issues, peace, harmony and no stress.

Pick up a copy of Camping for Stress Relief today. Be one with nature and its healing effect on the mind, body and soul. Experience nature through touch, sight and smell while you shut off the world and recharge your spirit to face it again.  If you are a newbie to this camping thing, I got you covered with a comprehensive camping check list.

Me Time: How to Find It

7 blog

Finding time for yourself is one of the best ways to manage stress. Time management for moms and busy women is essential!

In my last Wellness Wednesday post we spoke about how proper nutrition plays a great part in reducing stress, improving our health and overall mood.

In addition to my book on nutrition, I recommended some products that would help you save time as you prepare your meals. This takes us into the topic of today’s post time management.

Not having time to do things that are important or vital to our daily lives can really stress us out or throw us off our targets and goals. Whether it’s having time to prepare a healthy meal, finding the time to attend our child’s school function or getting to the store before it closes to buy a gift for our mom, the perception of not having the time to accomplish any of these goals, can cause us immense stress.

I specifically used the word the perception in the above sentence and bolded it, because that is what it is. It is your perception that you do not have enough time.

You have allowed yourself to fall victim to the mercy of Time. But Time does not want you to hurry or be its victim. Time has given you 24 hours in a day to make happen all the things that you need to happen.

Truthfully, some things cannot be done in one day and you need to recognize that. You finish it the next day or the next day. But some things must happen on this today. Your child’s school event date will not change, nor will your mother’s birthday. The good thing about these dates that will not change is that you know of most, if not all of them, ahead of time.  Your challenge is to manage your time, prioritize tasks, get done what needs to get done, when it needs to get done.

Immediately, being able to meet your goals, not disappoint your loved ones, relieves you of what could have been some otherwise very stressful moments.

I know how quickly the day seems to go by and before you know it you can be stuck with a lot of unfinished tasks, unmet commitments and very disappointed loved ones or unhappy employers. I created a system that is foolproof for successful time management in my book Time Management for Stress Relief. You too, can implement this system and reap the benefits of effective time management.

An additional bonus to successfully managing your time is that somewhere in there you magically create your “Me Time”. Not only did you lose the guilt and stress that comes when you don’t meet goals or commitments, you created well needed time for yourself to spend it however and with whomever you choose. This only adds to further de stressing your day and improving your long term mental health and adds to my theory as outlined in my book that proper time management will relieve stress.

Next Wellness Wednesday, I will cover a subject that is on every woman’s mind and can be the source of high stress for your entire household.

In the meantime, you can check out other books in my series by clicking here. You can even check out my bio and learn more me and why I want to help women change the way they approach stress in their everyday lives.

The Power of Scent That Conquers Stress–Aromatherapy For Beginners

1 blog

Did you know that aromatherapy is one of the best ways to combat stress?

Today for Wellness Wednesday, I want to talk to you about the power of scent for conquering stress and provide you with valuable information about aromatherapy for beginners.

We all have similar stories of trying to balance work, a family, finances, elder parents, marriages, divorces, loss of a loved one and all the off shoot products of each of those issues and responsibilities.

Before you know it we have become a wound up, unhealthy, stressed out person who sometimes cannot tell which way is up. As the matriarch of the home, when so many people depend on us, we cannot allow this melt down to go on. We have to take care of ourselves, so we can take care of those that matter most to us.

Because I was there, I get it. I understand the stress and frustration of what a vast majority of women are going through. This is why I have created my series of books focused on relieving stress in women, from all walks of life. Whether you are a stay at home mom, work from home, or out of an office, I have something for you that will relieve, prevent, change your attitude towards stress, or remove your stress completely.

I have created a Self-Help Stress Solutions Book Series on Amazon Kindle. It is a series of 10 books that tackles various practical and effective ways to handle or approach stress related issues.

I want to begin our magnificent stress reduction journey on a light foot, exploring a  book and a smell. The book is one of the books in my self-help series. It is called Aromatherapy for Stress Relief.

Smell is one of our most powerful senses. Aromatherapy works in this same way, triggering the body’s natural stress relief centers, to release dopamine and other calming hormones. You will be amazed at how a simple smell derived from fragrances that occur naturally or artificially affects your senses, relieves stress and can even improve your romantic life. Don’t we all need a little of that!

My book details how different smells can affect your mood, or your partners. Learn how to positively reinforce scents in your daily life, at the office or at home. It guides you on choosing the right scent, oil, perfume and even scented products that you unconsciously use daily, into your healing  aromatherapy regimen.

Feel and smell your stress  disappear. Get my book Aromatherapy Stress Relief and learn the secrets of the power of scent. Watch your positive mood be transferred to those around you.

You can also check out other books in my series, as each book offers a gold mine of information, all about conquering stress and changing your attitude towards dealing with it.

Until next time.

Don’t forget to stop and smell the roses! It can do a body good!

Add These 12 Super Foods For Stress to your Diet!

In my ongoing fight against stress I have discovered certain foods that have deserve the label super food. Super foods for stress can improve your health by making you more stress-resilient, lowering your risk of heart disease and stroke, while boosting your immune system. energy, focus, and mental sharpness. The best part is that you get these benefits using all natural foods, instead of items containing chemicals and drugs.

Here’s my list  of 12 super foods for stress and a description of how they help my body and mind:

1. Sweet Potatoes. Sweet potatoes are packed with added fiber, potassium and vitamin C. I cook them in many ways including baked, boiled or mashed, as well as cubed in soups.

2. Blueberries. Blueberries are definitely a super fruit! They contain beneficial antioxidants as well as vitamin C and fiber. They make a healthy treat and they’re easy to eat on their own or in smoothies and baked goods.  I love adding blueberries to my oats for a powerful breakfast in the mornings.

3. Bananas. Bananas make  my list because of their beneficial nutrients as well as high potassium content. They also contain a healthy dose of vitamin B6.  I grab a banana to eat as a mid morning of mid afternoon snack.  Its delicious and gives me a burst of energy.  Calms hunger pangs too!

4. Broccoli. Broccoli is a vegetable that contains a healthy amount of vitamin C and folic acid. If you don’t like the taste, you can use some spices, cheese, or dip to add some flavor.  I did not like the taste as a teenager and would drown my broccoli in cheese.  But now I am older and wiser, and I love broccoli, lightly steamed, with nothing added!

5. Spinach. Spinach comes packed with many beneficial ingredients. It’s one of the best leafy green vegetables that you can eat. It contains folate, potassium, magnesium, iron, and more. Plus it’s easy to add to salads.  I use spinach in my breakfast smoothies as well!  And best of all, I grow my own spinach at home…its an easy veggie to grow in your backyard garden.

6. Apples. So now you know there’s truth to the saying that an apple a day keeps the doctor away! They contain many of the benefits of the other super food fruits, as well as a decent fiber content. They’re also a low glycemic index food. Apples can help you stay full and may help with weight loss.  Apples are my second choice for grab and go healthy snacks ( second to bananas).  I also add apple to my juicing, which I often do during the week as well.  Great stuff.

7. Baked Beans. Protein, fiber and calcium are just some of the benefits of this low GI super food. Baked beans have also been known to lower the chances of bowel type cancers because of the unique way they’re digested.

8. Yogurt. Yogurt is a super healthy way of getting your dairy intake for the day. In addition to being an excellent source of calcium, yogurt has also been known to improve your bowel health overall. Yogurt can help with regulating the digestive system.  Great snack too!

9. Salmon. Lean fish are always good alternatives for healthy meats in your diet. However, salmon is extra special because it contains Omega 3’s. Omega 3’s alone have many health benefits such as reduced risks of heart attacks as well as mental disorders such as depression.  This is basically the only fish I eat.  It’s simply delicious and with all its stress-busting features I am always motivated to add it to my monthly meal planning list

10. Olive Oil. Olive oil is one type of oil that’s okay to add to your diet in moderation. It’s a good idea to keep in mind that a little bit goes a long way. Olive oil can lower bad cholesterol levels and it also contains a healthy amount of antioxidants. Use olive oil mixed with balsamic vinegar for salad dressing, instead of the creamy stuff.

11. Dark Chocolate. This is usually the shocker on the super foods list. Dark chocolate can be yummy and beneficial to your health. Dark chocolate, in small amounts each day, can lower your blood pressure and it also contains antioxidants.  This is how I indulge with NO guilt!  Dark chocolate ( taken in small amounts) is actually GOOD me for!

12. Citrus Fruit. Many like the taste of sweet citrus fruits, which makes it quite the popular super food. You’ll still want to eat these fruits in moderation because they have a higher sugar content. However, citrus fruits also come with a high amount of vitamin C, fiber, and folic acid.  My favorite citrus fruit is tangerine!  But I often add oranges or grapefruits to my juicing concoctions.  :-)

There are many other foods that rightfully deserve the title of super food, but this list should get you started in the right direction. It’s always a great thing to hear when a delicious food also helps you live a happier, more stress-resilient, and healthier life!

Now its YOUR turn!
